Silverfish are primitive, wingless insects that thrive in dark, high-humidity environments. They are most commonly found indoors in areas with moisture and abundant starch or carbohydrates.

Primary Rooms: Bathrooms, basements, kitchens, laundries, and attics.

Micro-Habitats: Under sinks, behind baseboards, inside bookshelves, and beneath wallpaper

.Food Sources: Bookbinding glue, cardboard, paper, wallpaper paste, and spilled flour.

Why Silver Fish Are Classified as Pests

Silverfish do not bite, sting, or transmit diseases to humans. Instead, they are classified as household pests because they are highly destructive to property and can trigger respiratory issues in sensitive individuals.

Property Destruction

They use their weak jaws to scrape and ruin specific materials around a home:
Paper Goods: They chew holes through books, historical documents, and family photos.

Adhesives: They consume the starches found in wallpaper glue and book bindings.

Even though Silver Fish breed slowly, they can quickly become a major problem due to two specific survival traits:

Long Lifespans: A single silverfish can live for 3 to 8 years, meaning generations overlap and accumulate over time.
Extreme Hardiness: They can survive for up to one year without food, allowing them to wait out dry or lean periods easily.
